Andy Borowitz, in an inspired comedic moment, penned what’s quite probably true: Instant Poll: 90% of Republicans Who Did Not See Obama’s Speech Disagree With It.  However, 100% (or vanishingly close) of libertarians and independents who DID see it didn’t like it either …

While unthinking leftest useful idiots lapped it up, Cato Institute scholars effectively address and debunk the spin to reveal  the SOTU for what it is: largely a long winded, empty, public jerk-off:

While there is always the expected short-term bounce in presidential approval ratings after a SOTU, there were authentic bright spots for libertarians and independents in Obama’s speech (i.e., making earmarks more transparent and the long awaited and long, Long, LONG overdue withdrawal from Iraq).  However, while the left can take some comfort in the fact that the GOP is still largely ineffective, the biggest meme on the left is that independents, who helped get Obama elected, still stand solidly behind their man — this could not be further from the truth, and no short term bounce is going to reverse the trend: Democratic support has collapsed among independent swing voters.
